<g:title>I Come From Chiefs Too </g:title>
      <g:description>16x20/Acrylic on Canvas2026
**I Come From Chiefs Too**

My newest work out of the Rainy Mountain Studio reflects on the many ways Indigenous identity is lived and expressed. The figure stands within a visual language of Pan Indian inspired forms and symbols while presenting himself as a contemporary individual, comfortable in his own identity and unconcerned with meeting expectations placed upon him by others.

The painting speaks to the idea that Native people are not defined solely by ceremony, tradition, or family lineage. While some individuals place great importance on those connections, they do not represent the only way to be Indigenous. The title acknowledges an ancestral connection to respected leaders and chiefs, while also suggesting that such heritage does not have to become the center of one's identity.

The man recognizes where he comes from, but he does not rely on the accomplishments or reputation of those who came before him to define his worth. He does not ride the coattails of a famous chief's name or use ancestry as a measure of importance. Instead, he carves his own path, building his own identity.
Our ancestors are part of our story, but each of us is responsible for writing our own chapter.

      <g:title>Watching Y'all </g:title>
      <g:description>18x24 Acrylic on Canvas/ 2026
**Watching Y'all**
*Acrylic on Canvas, 18 x 24 inches*

This painting combines portraiture with a more expressive, contemporary approach to color and line. I built the figure using loose, visible brushwork and simplified forms rather than realism. Bright contour lines move around the hat, shoulders, and face, creating energy and helping separate the figure from the dark background. The contrast between earthy tones and unexpected colors gives the painting a sense of both history and immediacy.
The figure meets the viewer with a calm, knowing expression, as if quietly observing everything taking place around him. While the painting references Native identity and presence, it is also about character and the enduring presence of those who have seen generations come and go.

      <g:title>Occupying the Dream </g:title>
      <g:description>16x20/Acrylic on Canvas/2026

This latest work explores a shared ceremonial space that exists somewhere between vision and imagination. The figures occupy the same realm, yet each appears absorbed in an individual act of concentration, suggesting that participation in ceremony is both collective and deeply personal. At the center, a bent figure engages in the creation or conjuring of medicine, becoming a focal point of transformation and intention. Surrounding figures gaze upward in a dreamlike state, their attention directed toward forces beyond the visible world. Swirling abstract marks, luminous colors, and symbolic forms move throughout the composition, creating an atmosphere of spiritual and emotional activity. Through layered gestures and expressive color, my painting evokes a visionary landscape where ceremony unfolds beyond ordinary reality and where unseen energies become briefly visible.</g:description>

      <g:title>Luminous </g:title>
      <g:description>11x14/ Acrylic on Canvas/2026
In this painting, I wanted to create a portrait that feels emotional and spiritually charged rather than completely realistic. I used loose outlines, layered colors, and visible brushstrokes to give the figure movement and energy, almost like the image is still forming in front of the viewer. The bright green background and glowing marks were meant to create a dreamlike atmosphere that contrasts with the calm but intense expression of the subject. The braids, facial details, and earthy tones reflect ideas of Indigenous identity, memory, and personal presence, while the unfinished qualities of the piece allow emotion and intuition to speak louder than perfection.
